There is no question about
most people’s perception of bikers. To the general public, who bikers refer to
as “citizens”, bikers are all criminals who focus on bikes, babes and booze. In
this book, I present the bikers side, relying on interviews of members of the
Chosen Few Motorcycle Club, an “outlaw” motorcycle club founded in the 1960s in
the Los Angeles area, a club which is now over 50 years old. My documentation
of the Chosen Few began in 1972 when I a freelance photographer for Time
Magazine, and conclude 40 years later after I became a writer.
The Chosen Few broke the
color line in the 1960s, becoming the first integrated outlaw motorcycle club
in the United States, while the rest of the country resisted integration and
interracial harmony. Since 1972, the club has grown from five chapters in the area and a membership of around 100, to 13
chapters and over 250 members today, with chapters located principally in the
western states of the ,
